NOMINATION: Luminary - State and Territory

NOMINATION: Luminary - State and Territory

The Luminary Awards seek to honour individuals and organisations who, through sustained contribution (demonstrated over a period 3-5 years prior), have impacted their communities on a state or territory level through visionary leadership, fearless trailblazing, high-level artistic practice, and championing of Australian repertoire. Nominations for individuals should demonstrate a program of activities or a range of projects rather than (for example) the recording and release of a single album. Nominations for a single work or project should be made in the Work of the Year or Excellence categories.

If you believe you are nominated in the wrong category or the details of your nomination to be incorrect, please contact the AMC via email at awards@australianmusiccentre.com.au before proceeding with the nomination.

Nominator Statement
In the heart of the Victorian arts community, 3MBS Melbourne 103.5FM has been and continues to be a beacon of cultural enrichment and community engagement.

As a stalwart advocate for art music, new music, classical music and as dedicated supporter of emerging artists, 3MBS has significantly contributed to the cultural landscape of Victoria, fostering appreciation for the arts and nurturing local talent, new, emerging and established. Particularly in the last 5 years, 3MBS has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to its mission of promoting the Victorian arts community through various initiatives, such as its notable annual Victorian Young Performers Award and The Talent 3MBS displaying continuous efforts to provide a platform for emerging artists.

3MBS has offered invaluable opportunities for young talents to showcase their skills and gain recognition within the music community, while also deeply engaging with established local and international artists regularly in their radio programmes, and the annual 3MBS Marathon, presented as a day-long festival at the Melbourne Recital Centre. 3MBS' Marathon is has become a staple event every year, bringing together diverse ensembles, audiences and communities, while also highlighting professional local talent and composers. I was thrilled myself to be a featured composer in 2024s rendition as one of 3 Australian composers programmed, which has no doubt aided my career.

3MBS also continues to play a pivotal role in fostering a sense of community among classical music enthusiasts in Victoria, with its vibrant audiences and popular patron subscription services being a testament to 3MBS integral place in the Victorian arts community. Its diverse broadcast programming caters to a wide audience, fostering a vibrant and inclusive musical community. Additionally, by showcasing Australian compositions and featuring local artists prominently in its programming, 3MBS has helped shine a spotlight on the wealth of talent within the country, particularly Victoria, fostering a sense of pride and identity regarding new music within the Australian classical and art music community.

Furthermore, 3MBS has been a steadfast supporter of Australian composers and performers, championing homegrown talent and contributing to the growth of the local music scene, as already mentioned by some of my own involvement. In its 50th Anniversary year this 2025, 3MBS is showcasing a free-to-the-public Gala event at Hawthorn Arts Centre, bringing elite ensembles together (such as Flinders Quartet) for a day of celebration and music-making, even commissioning myself for a 10-minute solo piano work, again displaying their support of local Australian composers, while also generously giving back to the Victorian community.

In recognition of its outstanding contributions to the cultural landscape of Victoria over the past five years, I proudly nominate 3MBS Music for its positive impact as an organisation for an Art Music Award in the Luminary category for Organisations. Through their multi-faceted dedication to nurturing all aspects of art and classical music across Victoria, 3MBS has enriched the lives of countless individuals and continues to leave an indelible mark on the cultural fabric of our community.
