Draevon For String Trio
Nominator Statement
Draevon for String Trio is a classical work composed in a contemporary angular style employing an array of articulations.
I am nominating Draevon because it has a very expressive and distinctive sound, and for this it is worthy of recognition.
In this work Angie explores the magical interplay between intellectual ideas and emotional instincts, and the music sounds alive, modern and engaging. Her affinity with strings in combination with an ability to compose with the sound of specific players in mind is very powerful.
She also continues to delve into her fascination with building an entire piece from a central idea and her creative process in doing so. While deeply interested in structure, she remains guided by meaning and emotion, finding power in the balance between these elements.
Inspired by a terrifying winged beast and conveying an air of dread and suspense, Draevon provides the listener with a safe place to bring their own interpretation - their beholders share - to it.
Draevon is performed by violinist Zoe Black, violist Christopher Moore and cellist Molly Kadarauch.
