Nominator Statement
Phantasy is a classical work composed for violin and viola.

I am nominating Phantasy because it is strikingly beautiful, evocative and has a sound of its own that fuses traditional and modern elements.

This beguiling piece paints the scene of a girl deep in reverie; as her imagination unfurls, she sees apparitions from the past appear in a surrounding woodland.

In this piece and others, Angie adopts the players as muses, creating the work according to their unique musical personalities. This approach in combination with her excellent craft with strings and her ability to evoke scenes through music is powerful and mesmerising.

The musical parts are like dancers circling around one another. Sometimes in parallel motion, and at other times in contrary motion; they are two fluid halves producing a synergetic effect.

Also in this work she continues to explore her fascination with building an entire piece from a central idea and her creative process in doing so. While deeply interested in structure, she remains guided by meaning and emotion, finding power in the balance between these elements.

Phantasy is performed by violinist Zoe Black and violist Christopher Moore.
