I would like to nominate ANJO Youth Big Bands excellent Australian premiere of Nadje Noordhuis Little Song for Jazz Performance of the Year. The lush internal balance of the group, the industry leading artistry of these incredible young musicians and astonishing improvisations of guest alto saxophonist Remy Le Boeuf, made this performance one of the most intriguing and accomplished jazz performances I have witnessed in many years. The effortless manner in which the ensemble tackled the unusual time signature of 10/8, the beautiful melodies ( both improvised and composed ) and the astonishing virtuosity of Le Boeuf were some of the countless highlights of this performance which was recorded by ABC Jazz for National broadcast. The ANJO Youth Big Band is an elite, blindfold auditioned Jazz Orchestra that features Australias best jazz musicians aged between 18 & 25 and this sensational performance, even more remarkable as it was recorded live with no editing, was included on the Best of ABC Jazz 2024 CD release and broadcast multiple times on ABC Jazz. Limelight Magazine concluded "Theres a grace and elegance to these compositions which are filled with memorable melodies and solos that climb to joyful heights and when I have revisited this concert by watching the beautifully captured video/audio recordings I concurthis performance, by our countries leading jazz orchestra, is still fresh in my mind as one of the highlight performances of 2024.
