It may include, but is not limited to; sonic art, electronics, interactive work, generative music, environmental sound, installations, soundscapes, electroacoustic music, and intermedia works.

Nominator Statement
Tether studies (2021/24) is a work for viola and electronics. This piece was commissioned by and dedicated to Phoebe Green.
Tether studies explores an intimate sound world based upon 'aeolian' viola samples, where strings are gently activated by voiceless breathan indistinct, spectral tie of a kind. The work's origins came during the covid lockdowns, as Charlie was finishing his PhD (Charlie's research centred on experimental notation practices and incorporates social interaction). 'Tether' is somewhat melancholic, drawing or perhaps seeking a tie, the sounds occasionally 'droopy', a soft fall. The live viola at times indistinct from the electronics.
Charlie is a singular voice in the current Australian Art music landscape. His music draws the listener in, and his score asks for restraint and control from the performer.
