I am nominating Chloé Charody for her violin & piano sonata LIMBO which she composed specifically for my skills as a violinist and acrobat. Besides the ground breaking nature of the performance elements to this composition, the music Chloé has composed has a unique language that speaks to highlight the poignancy of the narrative. Chloé is not only an accomplished composer on an international scale, but is also an avid human rights defender and refugee supporter and she uses her platform as a composer with an international audience to highlight the plight of refugees. I can speak from experience that after touring LIMBO across the world for the last 2 years that audiences are moved in ways I've never seen before and I think this is due to the power of the musical composition, the ground breaking nature of the performance as well as the poignancy of the narrative. This work not only serves to highlight brilliance in Australian contemporary composition, but also serves to highlight the effects of Australia's polices towards refugees.
