Nominator Statement
Connor D'Netto has distinctive compositional voice. His work is masterfully crafted and imbued with a deep sense of honest emotive discourse. It is immediately inviting and accessible, and at the same time, is curiously complex and vividly detailed.
'Postcards' is a major new work. A song cycle that sets the powerful words of five writers, this new work for mezzo soprano, guitar and piano is an extraordinarily strong contribution to the Australian chamber music repertoire.
The work explores the evolving notion of 'home' and it's multitudes of meaning. D'Netto's score evokes a sense of searching, timelessness and inquisitive hopefulness that beautifully matches the commissioned words.
Connor D'Netto's 'Postcards' is worthy and deserving of celebration. It is my pleasure to recommend him as a worthy and deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
