NOMINATION: Luminary - State and Territory
The Luminary Awards seek to honour individuals and organisations who, through sustained contribution (demonstrated over a period 3-5 years prior), have impacted their communities on a state or territory level through visionary leadership, fearless trailblazing, high-level artistic practice, and championing of Australian repertoire.
Nominations for individuals should demonstrate a program of activities or a range of projects rather than (for example) the recording and release of a single album. Nominations for a single work or project should be made in the Work of the Year or Excellence categories.
If you believe you are nominated in the wrong category or the details of your nomination to be incorrect, please contact the AMC via email at awards@australianmusiccentre.com.au before proceeding with the nomination.

Nominee
Dr Rebecca LLoyd Jones
Nominated Project/Activity
work on the bass alemba
State/Territory
New South Wales
Nominator Statement
I nominate Rebecca Lloyd Jones because she has ferreted out not only an ancient piece of mine, Alanbiq, but she has also thrown light and interest on the two keyboard percussion instruments I invented in the 1980s.
It has been many years since I have seen the bass alemba in particular. I register what a special instrument it is. It is currently owned by the Powerhouse Museum. I had several years working at Lindfield at the CSIRO and was greatly assisted in my work by Dr Neville Fletcher and Paul Drew. Dr Fletcher was a genius who worked out the fine tuning of the giant triangles that comprised both instruments.
I am so grateful to Rebecca for rediscovering these instruments and bringing them back into existence again. The bass alemba is especially beautiful and makes a unique sound.
The bass alemba resides at the Powerhouse Museum.
I will be working with Rebecca from early March '25. We need to restore the sound capabilities of the instrument.
The Powerhouse operates without a music curator and the instrument needs to be repaired. Rebecca and I will do this.
