Outstanding contributions to vocal education

Nominator Statement
Hannah May's exceptional commitment and contributions to music education have significantly elevated the standard of vocal pedagogy and nurtured a thriving community of vocal talent. Her innovative approach combines rigorous technical training with a warm, supportive environment that encourages artistic growth and self-expression through the studio she founded, HM Voice Studios. In 2024, she launched a new physical studio space in Greater Hobart and has cultivated a vibrant hub for vocal excellence, mentoring 40 dedicated students in her studio and online including interstate clients Australia-wide in 2024. She also conducts regular workshops for up to 25 participants each year including 7 workshops in 2024. Her pedagogical expertise extends beyond her private studio, as she has previously shared her knowledge as a regular voice tutor of students at McKillop College, Mount Carmel College, and Taroona High School, while also serving on the Hutchins School voice audition panel in 2024.

Hannah's commitment to professional development is exemplified by her recent participation in the 2024 Voice Summit with renowned vocal coaches Mindy Pack and Dr. Reena Gupta, representing Tasmania as an ANATS bursary recipient. This dedication to staying at the forefront of vocal pedagogy ensures that her students benefit from the latest advancements in the field.

Hannah's annual student showcase at Salamanca Arts Centre, now in its fourth year, stands as a testament to Hannah's ability to inspire and showcase emerging talent by providing a voice and a platform for those voices to be heard. With an audience of 140 members per showcase including her 2024 showcase, Hannah's initiative not only celebrates the achievements of her students but also contributes to the cultural fabric of Greater Hobart and music education in Australia.
