Easter at the Piano Mill 2024

Nominator Statement
Easter at the Piano Mill is a unique regional event in the Granite Belt (on the lands of the western Bundjalung people), celebrating experimental Australian music. This event is annually presented by Harriman's Lane Collective - an interarts program and production organisation directed by Bruce and Jocelyn Wolfe. HLC supports artists across various disciplines in projects connected to its venues in remote bushland on the NSW/Queensland border.

The 2024 edition featured Vanessa Tomlinsons Imaginary Aviary and a collaboration between special guest Jon Rose and Piano Mill artist-in-residence Erik Griswold.

Imaginary Aviary imagined the calls of future bird species, performed by an ensemble including Peter Knight, Flora Wong, Jodie Rotte, Tara Pattendon, Chris Stover, and Tim Munro. Jon Rose, a globally renowned innovator in violin performance, joined Griswold for new works and improvisations, further expanding the boundaries of contemporary music.

This event fosters artistic exchange, community engagement, and deep listening in a natural setting. By bringing leading artists to regional Queensland, it enriches the local cultural landscape and highlights the significance of site-responsive music. Harrigans Lane Collective continues to champion regional artistic excellence through this outstanding event.
