Nominator Statement
Holli Scott is an exceptional composer, lyricist, vocalist, and improviser. The command she has over her voice and improvisational abilities, as well as the uniqueness of her compositional and musical style make her a truly unique artist worthy of recognition and celebration. Weather and Weeds (including the Interlude and the main track) is a composition about ageing, unkempt relationships with herself and the world, and grounded in imagery of the suburban WA landscape. Holli stated that "it speaks to the constant care, labour and attention required to keep up with the world around us and be a functioning part of it". Holli's composition, her vocal strength, and lyricism, combined with the performances of Tal and Jamie all contribute to the beauty of this track, released within an album of equally poignant compositions. Holli is truly a unique and powerful musical voice in Australia.
