Chance Encounters Album

Nominator Statement
This album was recorded as one long improvisation session at AIM studios Sydney and has been broken up into smaller sections for convenience. IBID is Keyna Wilkins (piano/flute) and Shane Carpini (drumset). Together they play jazz/classical/folk interpretations of stream of consciousness improvisations and their own compositions inspired by philosophy, astronomy and human behaviour. They released their debut album "Spaces In Between" in 2022 on all streaming platforms and have been performing in venues and festivals around NSW since 2021. Wilkins is an Australian/British composer-musician and was one of three finalists for the Australian Art Music Awards for Individual Excellence in 2021 and 2018. Carpini is a prolific drummer and composer. Their work has been described as: "Exploratory, almost wall-of-sound, invention of consistently high quality." by JAZZ JOURNAL UK and "5 STARS: A captivating, expansive musical experience. Their creative synergy shines through, with a rewarding variety of tone colours, shifting combos of instrumentation, and seamless mix across the track list of stream of consciousness improvisation, structured improvisation, and composed works" by Sydney Arts Guide.
