NOMINATION: Performance of the Year - Jazz / Improvised Music

For the performance of a single Australian work, showcasing the performer(s)’ success in improvisatory creation or collaboration. This may entail entirely improvised work or significant improvisatory input such as solo passages. A work is defined as a single complete musical composition, or expression. This includes music with movements or sub-works (i.e. song cycles), installations, and real-time compositions (improvised music).

Nominator Statement
Born into a family of musicians with a cultural background of Samoan and Polish parents, Koebi Faumui has been performing, producing and writing music since he was eight years old honing his live skills and drawing inspiration from experiences with his older siblings.

Predominantly raised and influenced by gospel and acapella music from a young age Koebi was exposed to Jazz when he began his studies at The school music at ANU in 2021. Hes thoroughly enjoyed his discovery of Jazz music and has performed the genre whenever he can. Heres his rendition of Spain which he performed last year, accompanied by bass player Olivia Faletoese.
