Kym Dillon's first work for string quartet is a beautifully shaped work in a luminous and elegant harmonic idiom drawing deeply on classical tradition. It's based on the well-known Schubert song "An die Musik", which gradually reveals itself across the piece's duration. The string writing is idiomatic and highly engaging, and the musical argument clear and compelling.
