Luke's commission for Grigoryan Brothers is a really beautiful, reflective piece - Amistad means 'friend', and Leonard Grigoryan is Luke's best friend. What I love about this work is that it sounds sombre and heartfelt, composed during difficult times. Good friendships allow the space for vulnerability, listening without judgement, kindness and openess. I can hear this space in the music, and I think it challenges the stereotype of toxic masculinity, and what male friendships are supposed to be, especially in Australia.
