Luminescence Chamber Singers - annual program in ACT and beyond

NOMINATION: Luminary - State and Territory

NOMINATION: Luminary - State and Territory

The Luminary Awards seek to honour individuals and organisations who, through sustained contribution (demonstrated over a period 3-5 years prior), have impacted their communities on a state or territory level through visionary leadership, fearless trailblazing, high-level artistic practice, and championing of Australian repertoire. Nominations for individuals should demonstrate a program of activities or a range of projects rather than (for example) the recording and release of a single album. Nominations for a single work or project should be made in the Work of the Year or Excellence categories.

If you believe you are nominated in the wrong category or the details of your nomination to be incorrect, please contact the AMC via email at awards@australianmusiccentre.com.au before proceeding with the nomination.

Nominator Statement
Luminescence celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2025. Over ten years, the organisation has grown out of an enthusiastic bunch of singing students into a fully professional organisation presenting an annual series of concerts in Canberra, Sydney, regional NSW in addition to interstate tours, festival appearances, recording projects in tandem with ABC, and special creative projects such as Red Dirt Hymns. The six voice vocal ensemble develops new work with a broad range of composers around the nation, and has a terrific children's choir in tow which has embedded the group's strong links with the local community.

Canberra is a hotbed of extremely diverse choral activity - yet it has long lacked the presence of an elite group that can act as a genuine role model. The last 5 years have seen the ensemble (and the organisation around it) rise to new heights of excellence. I say without hesitation that no other musical organisation in ACT has engendered this level of change or sheer impact. The combination of a fresh approach to programming with a sustained commitment to its ensemble culture has paid steady dividends and has set up the group for a bright future in Canberra and far beyond . It has taken determination as well as smart planning, but Luminescence is now the undisputed success story in ACT and a great cultural ambassador to boot. You might say: not only the crystallisation of that new urban Canberra vibe but also the peak of the old choral ACT iceberg. Luminescence rocks.
