Nominator Statement
I am incredibly proud to nominate Luna Pan's exceptional work for the Sydney New Year's Eve 2024 Midnight Fireworks Soundtrack, recognising its powerful contribution to one of the world's most iconic celebrations. Luna's composition was more than just a musical accompaniment- it became integral to the fireworks experience, elevating the spectacle with emotion, depth, and storytelling through sound. I feel her work perfectly represents outstanding excellence in this specific category.
PIONEERING WORK
The music for the fireworks is usually 'curated', and I was so excited to hear a composed soundtrack for the 2024 NYE Event for the first time. Luna's composition for this event is a trailblazing, innovative musical project. I feel she nailed the 'underwater world' brief while successfully engaging with the local and global audience (of all ages) throughout the display and taking them on an immersive journey.
A GLOBAL SOUNDTRACK FOR A GLOBAL AUDIENCE
These fireworks are broadcast to millions worldwide, and Lunas work ensured that the musical experience was as impactful as the visual spectacle. It was a breathtaking fusion of cinematic grandeur, contemporary production, and deeply evocative themes. Her music's dynamic shifts, crescendos, and delicate moments made people feel connected to the celebration. She included goosebump moments and time for reflection whilst also keeping the energy building towards the final crescendo!
A THREE-PART SPECTACULAR
Lunas 12-minute musical presentation comprised 3 individual tracks, providing an impressive foundation for this stunning musical and visual journey. The vocals/lyrics woven throughout this experience were incredibly uplifting. The choice of musical direction felt 'fresh' and clean, and appealed to a diverse audience. Her ability to weave dynamic, soaring orchestrations with modern textures heightened each moment of the show, creating a seamless and captivating experience.
EXCEPTIONAL PRODUCTION VALUES AND VISION
The production values of this music were impressive. She seamlessly created her unique sound and successfully combined the orchestral elements and female vocals into the EDM landscape. The attention to production details was special - for example, the use of muffled vocals and vocal repeats to give the impression that the singer was part of the underwater world.
BRIDGING TRADITION AND INNOVATION
What made Lunas work truly stand out was its ability to honour tradition while embracing innovation. Her composition reflected this dualityblending classical orchestration with contemporary electronic elements to create a timeless yet fresh soundtrack. Her music didnt just support the fireworks; it told a story of unity, celebration, and the journey into a new year.
WHY LUNAS WORK DESERVES RECOGNITION
Lunas composition was not just background music but an essential element of the events success. The fireworks were both seen AND felt. The emotional resonance, technical mastery, and innovative approach she brought to the soundtrack deserve to be acknowledged.
For these reasons, I strongly support the nomination of Luna Pan's work, recognising its extraordinary contribution to this unforgettable event.
