For the performance of a single Australian work, showcasing the performer(s)’ success in improvisatory creation or collaboration. This may entail entirely improvised work or significant improvisatory input such as solo passages.
A work is defined as a single complete musical composition, or expression. This includes music with movements or sub-works (i.e. song cycles), installations, and real-time compositions (improvised music).

Mungangga Garlagula is a unique collaboration in music, sound, and storytelling by renowned musicians and composers Mark Atkins and Erkki Veltheim. Listeners are invited to to gather by the campfire and journey through a world where past and future, dream and reality, intertwine. The pre-recorded recordings have been created in collaboration with a company of exceptional Australian musicians and the performance conjured a nocturnal landscape of memories, spirits, and echoes of country, blending words, breath, and sound to transport listeners beyond the fires glow.
Mungangga Garlagula is a powerful amalgamation of music, storytelling, and cultural expression, bringing First Nations perspectives to the stage. Together Mark Atkins and Erkki Veltheim, create a deeply immersive experience that bridges past and present, dream and reality. The work engages diverse audiences, particularly First Nations communities, fostering cultural pride and broader understanding. This work not only cements Mark as one of Australias finest Didgeridoo performers but platforms him as a leading Australian storytelling voice. The combination of pre-recorded and live composition elements created and manipulated live by Veltheim along with live folley and viola support and at times engulf the sonic space only to have Mark return us back to a pin drop focus to the border between day and night, dream and reality, the reverberating past and the emerging future.
