Nominator Statement
Mark Cauvin, whom I only dicovered a few years ago now, is one of the most unsung / unrecognised geniuses playing experimental double bass / tapes in Australia today. His ability to improvise and and compose new music in the Art Music form as well as pushing the boundaries of musical conventions and structure are always new and exciting. Mark Solo or in groups is always a treat to the ears with his deep listening practice and viceral approach to his playing so that at times his bass is him and he the bass.
He has always astounded me at the SoundOut festival. I can not recommend him highly enough for this award. Check out his bandcamp site https://markcauvin.bandcamp.com/
