Nominator Statement
Oliver John Camerons M.TH.R is a bold and imaginative chamber opera that redefines the genre for contemporary audiences. With libretto by Xavier Hazard and Megan Rundle, M.TH.R explores profound themes of identity, chosen versus biological family, and the complexities of parental relationships, all set against a vibrant sonic landscape inspired by pop icons like Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Björk. With its fearless fusion of styles and sharp social commentary, M.TH.R is an exhilarating addition to the operatic repertoire and should be considered for the "Dramatic Work of the Year". This work was composed as part of the Words, Text, Voices, Music program and was premiered at NIDA on October 28 2024.
