Orange Chamber Music Festival
Nominator Statement
The Orange Chamber Music Festival is the premier Art Music event of the Central West of NSW, presenting Australian and International artists and ensembles within a variety of venues around the Orange Region. Described as a world-class event, and praised for its excellence in programming Orange Chamber Music Festival is defining and establishing its vision as a Destination Festival with an artistic program of the highest standards.
To celebrate the city's vibrant cultural scene, Orange Chamber Music Festival has created Cultured, a free community event that combines music, visual arts, heritage and literature in a full day of activities in and around the cultural precinct. Usually held on the Saturday of the Festival week, Cultured invites the local community -and visitors- to experience classical music along with the displays and activities of the Orange Regional Gallery, the Orange Regional Museum, the Orange City Library and outdoor areas of the Civic Square.
Artistic Director, Carmen Nieves has worked hard with her team in the last five years to create a festival that is an integral part of the Australian cultural scene. Each year Carmen Nieves curates a festival program that brings to the forefront the work of our Australian composers. These Australian works include both commissioned and established repertoire performed by every ensemble at both the community and professional level.
The Orange Chamber Music Festival provides a national platform for professional local musicians to engage with our diverse audience, and facilitates artistic collaborations between established visiting artists and young musicians of the Central West via the Cultured Youth Orchestra, a project involving talented school-aged musicians of the Central West.
I am honoured to nominate Ms Carmen Nieves and the Orange Chamber Music Festiva for a Excellence in a Regional Area Art Music Award.
