Sensory Overload - albums
Nominator Statement
Paul has high functioning autism and is an electronic music composer. He wrote a psychedelic experimental soundtrack named Sensory Overload which explores the avenues of autistic sensory overload in a musical form.
It samples many sounds which can cause Paul sensory overload such as sudden loud noises, Dogs barking, balloons popping, grief, suffering, fear and anxiety and together with electronic and sampled instruments. Paul has put it all together to create this psychedelic out of this world experience soundtrack combining psychedelic electronica, world music and much more along with the samples.
Paul is a hardworking and prolific composer. He won an Apra Australian Art music award in 2023 with his collaborative duo, Alluvium, but this Sensory Overload project is Paul's solo and extremely personal exploration of how it feels to live in a world of sound, as a highly sensitive person with Autism. This album will resonate with those living with Autism. It's my belief that if Paul is successful, it will open up pathways of relatability for others living with Autism.
Paul is a wonderful composer. He is a sonic explorer and someone who wants to help others through his art.
While he is strong in the creative sense, he struggles to know how to get his work heard. This apra award would assist this to happen, and would be a well deserved accolade for Paul who works with so much energy on his music. This album is really beautiful, profound, well produced and deserves to be heard.
