Nominator Statement
The Cave of the Sleeping Lady is a choral symphony for SATB choir and full orchestra. It was co-commissioned by four schools, Sydney Grammar Edgecliff, Sydney Grammar St Ives, St Marys Perth, and Hale School Perth. The piece is about the Thai Cave Rescue of the Wild Boar Soccer team. It is in three movements, and runs for 25 minutes, featuring many interesting playing effects. The Cave of the Sleeping Lady pays homage to the boys, their coach, the rescuers and the cave. It is also inspired by the spirituality of Buddhist beliefs in the area, hence the name.
