Paula Girvan is a trailblazer in jazz education, shaping the next generation of Australian jazz musicians through her leadership, scholarship, and innovative pedagogical approaches. As Head of School at Jazz Music Institute (JMI), a well-rounded knowledge of jazz that enables them to navigate and innovate within todays ever-evolving music landscape. Her dedication to jazz pedagogy is evident in the extensive resources she has developed, particularly in jazz theory and aural training for improvisationcritical areas that underpin a musicians ability to engage meaningfully with the art form.
Paulas influence extends beyond the classroom; she is a mentor and advocate for both students and faculty, advocating for an environment of collaboration and artistic excellence. She has been instrumental in shaping the Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at JMI and ensuring that its curriculum remains relevant, rigorous, and innovative. Her work directly impacts not only JMI students but also the broader jazz community, as she actively engages in projects that support jazz across multiple genres.
Her leadership is defined by an unwavering commitment to accessibility and excellence in jazz education.
