It may include, but is not limited to; sonic art, electronics, interactive work, generative music, environmental sound, installations, soundscapes, electroacoustic music, and intermedia works.

Nominator Statement
Robert Curgenvens AGENESIS represents a bold statement in contemporary composition, combining stark electronics with acoustic sources (field recordings, pipe organ, turntables, dubplates and 100year old acetates). Its production deploys a mix that constantly demands your body and ears adjust and attune to its shifts in tone and timbre while delivering a vital, urgent sound.
As a term, AGENESIS refers to a partial or complete absence. As an album, released on CD in 2024, AGENESIS is a singular work split into 8 parts each of which bear the albums title missing a letter starting with _GENESIS through AGEN_SIS to AGENESI_. This strategy both breaks it into smaller parts to more easily digest its whole but also reveals, through its sound and titles, the totality of the whole through its parts. This wholeness through partial or complete absences is a paradox that sits playfully at the works core.
AGENESIS presents an innovative approach that combines multiple tuning systems, tightly adjusted tonal centres embedded within field recordings through to unusual and sudden shifts in sound pressure and musical direction. Carefully crafted, with a deft layering of disparate sounds, these unusual choices belie restraint within the tightly judged production values that shows somehow, that for it to be so detailed and competently and consistently composed Curgenven must know what hes doing. Across its eight parts the whole never fully reveals itself at any one time, maintaining its paradoxical nature right through to the epiphany within its final jubilant conclusion.
