The Luminary Awards seek to honour individuals who, through sustained contribution (demonstrated over a period 3-5 years prior), have impacted our community on a national scale through visionary leadership, fearless trailblazing, high-level artistic practice, and championing of Australian repertoire. Nominations for individuals should demonstrate a program of activities or a range of projects rather than (for example) the recording and release of a single album. Nominations for a single work or project should be made in the Work of the Year or Excellence categories.

For his outstanding contribution and dedication to Australian music as a broadcaster, producer, composer, and advocate.

Nominator Statement
Stephen Adams has been a driving force in Australian music broadcasting for over 20 years. As the inaugural Australian Music Curator at ABC Classic FM (since 2004) and later Australian Music Unit Producer, he has been instrumental in championing Australian composers and performers. He established the networks Australian Music website, commissions and produces new recordings, and collaborates closely with ABC programmers, presenters, and artists to bring Australian music to wider audiences. In his final years at the ABC, Stephen championed timely Fresh Start Australian Music Fund - a commissioning project that began in 2020 during the COVID 19 pandemic. The Fresh Start Australian Music Fund provided income and opportunities for many Australias musicians, commissioning new music that was recorded and broadcast on ABC Classic and Jazz, as well as released commercially by ABC Music.

Beyond the ABC, Stephen is an outstandingly creative composer, sound artist and performer himself, Stephens work spans genres, with a deep interest in the human voice and environmental soundscapes. His contributions extend globally, with performances and releases on esteemed labels. Stephens collaborative spirit has seen him work with countless artists across disciplines. He has also represented Australia at international music forums and received recognition for radiophonic projects.

Through his vision, advocacy, and dedication to Australian music on radio and beyond, Stephen Adams has had a profound impact on the national and international music landscape, making him a truly deserving Luminary Award recipient.
