Nominator Statement
For over two decades, the Hush Foundation has transformed healthcare environments through visionary leadership and fearless artistic innovation. In the past five years (20202024), Hush has commissioned and released groundbreaking Australian music, fostering collaborations between leading composers and performers to create works that bring comfort, connection, and beauty to hospitals and beyond. Released in 2024, Magic Sky is a groundbreaking album that exemplifies artistic excellence and the power of music to uplift and heal. Commissioned by the Hush Foundation, the album features seven new commissions and works by eight Australian female composers, performed by harpist Emily Granger and percussionist Claire Edwardes. With its unique blend of harp and marimba, Magic Sky brings a fresh and evocative sound to contemporary chamber music. The album has resonated widely, fostering connection and well-being in healthcare settings and beyond. As ABC Classics Feature Album of the Week, Magic Sky has reached national audiences, championing new Australian repertoire and reinforcing the role of music in enriching lives. This recording stands as a testament to the impact of innovative collaborations and the Hush Foundations visionary approach to music-making.
